Tioman Island Mega Dive 2007 | Article by: Luke Boychuk

“According to legend, Tioman Island is the resting place of a beautiful dragon princess.
Whilst flying from China to visit her prince in Singapore, this beautiful maiden stopped to seek
solace in the crystal-clear waters of the South China Sea. Enraptured by the charms of the
place, she decided to discontinue her journey. By taking the “dragon” form of the island, she
pledged to offer shelter and comfort to passing travelers.”

This is what I read after typing in Tioman Island into a couple search engines, shortly after finding out that we will be flying
down to the first annual Tioman Mega Dive Event to participate as part of the media team. Along with Fins Magazine,
Dive Photo Guide, X-Ray Magazine, Octopus Magazine, Underwater Australia, Expat Weekend, Action Asia, Virtual Malaysia,
Sport Diver Australasia and a couple free-lance journalists.

With the event itself expanding over 5 days, I suggest that you do what we did, and stay for a few more days, before or after in

Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. This will allow you to get an even better insight on the Malaysian culture, people
food and attractions. Such as the world's longest Canopy Walk, Batu Caves, China Town Market, Petronas Twin Towers, or
even the Malaysian International Dive Expo from July 6th – 8th.

The petronas twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is where we stayed, and you to if you

go to next years event in 2008. Tioman Island is only a one hour flight from Kuala Lumpur.

suggest planning it for next years event on Tioman Island in 2008.

Hiking up to the waterfall, what an adventure to get there.

The first part of the waterfall, this place is crazy.

Overall, Tioman Mega Dive was one of the best dive parties I have ever been to. With this being their first one, they did a very
good job of organization. I can't wait to see what next years event will consist of and where it will be located at!
